This congress is backed up by national and international standing institutions, such as the Media Literacy group of the UN Alliance of Civilizations or the research committee in Media Studies of the Center for Global Nonkilling (Honolulu, United States). It is also organized in collaboration with several research groups, organizations and associations specialized in the field, among which we can find the Foro Educación, Comunicación y Ciudadanía [Forum Education, Communication and Citizenship] (and its more recent activities through the Foro Andaluz Educación Comunicación y Ciudadanía), the research group Cambio Sociales – Universidad Pública de Nvarra, the research group Ciudadanía Digital – Universidad de Cádiz, the research group Ciberdemocracia – Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, the research group “Cibersomosaguas” of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the Interdisciplinary group on Communication, Politics and Social Change (COMPOLITICAS), Laboratorio de Comunicación y Cultura COMandalucía and the research group on Communication and Power at the Universidad de Málaga or the research group on Audiovisual Communication and Hypermedia GICAVH of the University of Valladolid, among others which can be found in the complete list of collaborators.
Moreover, the Congress is held as a convergence point of three main research projects that are currently carried out at the IUDESP:
- “Evaluación e indicadores de Sensibilidad Moral en la Comunicación Actual de los Movimientos Sociales” [Evaluation Model and Indicators of Moral Sensitivity in the Communication of Social Movements] (CS02012–34066), funded by the Spanish State Secretary of Research, Development and Innovation of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
- “De víctimas a indignados: Visibilidad mediática, migración de imágenes, espectacularización de los conflictos y procesos de transformación social hacia una Cultura de Paz” [From victims to indignants: media visibility, migration of images, conflicts espactacularization and social transformation processes for peace culture] (P1-1A2012) funded by the Promotion Plan for Research of the Universitat Jaume I.
- “La comunicación en red para el desarrollo” [Network communication for development] within the Non-state actors and local authorities in development of the European Commission, led by the Federación Catalana de ONG (FCONG).
In order to guarantee quality and accuracy in the evaluation process, all the proposals submitted for the Congress will be double-blind peer reviewed. In case of disagreement of the two reviewers, the proposal will be sent to a third referee who will decide its acceptance or refusal.
